Preparing for Preschool!

Does my child need preschool?
We believe all children benefit from high-quality preschool. At Kaibab Learning Center, your child will participate in the North American Montessori Center Curriculum, which will help establish a strong foundation in reading, writing, math, science, and geography. They will also develop "practical life" skills and social skills. Your child will have freedom to explore our well-prepared classroom environment throughout the day and play outdoors each day. Our experienced teachers will observe your child carefully during each sensitive period of development, and present lessons when your child shows signs of interest and readiness. A preschool education at Kaibab Learning Center will help your child build confidence and prepare them for a smooth transition to Kindergarten.

How do I register my child for preschool?
To register, simply call the office Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to set up an appointment. At your appointment, you will be given a registration packet, a tour of the center, and you will be given time to meet the teachers and ask any questions that you may have. To fully register, you must return your completed registration packet, registration fee, and payment for the first month.

How often should my child attend preschool?
To get the most of our curriculum, and to help your child maintain a predictable routine, we recommend four half days, or four full days per week. Fewer days may be possible, but children thrive on predictable routines and schedules. If you cannot afford four days of preschool, we recommend speaking with the Director to help establish the best schedule possible for your child's needs. Part-time schedules are prepared on a space-available basis only.

What things should I send with my child?
The most important thing to send is lots and lots of healthy food choices! Healthy foods, low in sugar, and unprocessed, will give your child's brain the maximum fuel for growth. Preschoolers are also notoriously picky eaters, so sending many good choices helps ensure that something will look yummy to your child on any given day. Please leave all candy and junk food at home, so that your child has ONLY good choices.

You should also send several complete changes of clothing. The children will play outdoors every day. Your child will probably get dirty from digging, playing, and learning, so it is important to have several outfits on hand to change into. A pair of slippers or "indoor shoes" is helpful for keeping the classroom quiet and clean, and keeping your child comfortable when indoors.

Please call us at any time, and we will be happy to speak with you! (928)638-6333
